Unblocking Writers Cramp

Whether you are assembling a professional team for a new project, composing a thesis for graduate school, writing your next book or addressing your followers on social media, clear communication is essential. It’s not enough to have a great idea; you must also be able to follow it through to the end – and that includes the written aspects. But, what happens when you get stuck in the infamous fog of writer’s block? How do you navigate your way to the finish line?

A simple change of scenery could be enough to jump-start your creativity. A leisurely walk along Clearwater’s Pier 60or a brisk hike through a nature trail can be very cathartic. Fresh coffee, perhaps? Local coffeehouses can be a melting pot for creatives. The Krazy Cupin Plant City hosts fun events like The Writer’s Loft, open mic night, and songwriting workshops. For serious writers, Tampa Writers Allianceoffers trusted support and valuable critiques for a nominal fee.  Or, check out Bay Area Professional Writers Guildfor a fun group of eclectic writers. BAPWG is the only writers’ network in the Tampa Bay (FL) area comprising freelance, non-fiction and fiction writers. Many members have had a career in writing and and many have published books. BAPWG offers coaching, workshops and other helps for Tampa Bay’s authors and writers.

What else does your community have to offer? Some people prefer the convenience and privacy of webinars or attend Facebook live discussions, which are becoming increasingly popular. Others thrive on the energy of week-long intensive conferences such as the one that Eckerd College hosts annually in January. The upcoming Writers in Paradiseevent offers the chance to glean from the experience of a Pulitzer Prize winner, poet laureates, and best-selling authors in a variety of genres. If you want to attend this event, they are accepting applications through November 1st. These are just a sampling of options available for strengthening writing and communication skills.

If you need a fix right away, On Point’s 5thAnnual Book Fairis coming right around the corner. Consider joining us on Saturday, September 21stat Westshore Plaza. You can meet published authors, pick up a new book in which to escape—and for the adventurous spirit—there will also be a free drum circle. Find out more by visiting our Facebook page.
