Mark Cuban’s tips for success

July 1, 2014

Famous for entrepreneurial success as well as being the owner of the Mavericks, one of the most valuable teams in sports, Mark Cuban has become a poster boy for the American Dream. In an interview with EntreLeadership promoting his new book "How to Win at the Sport of Business,"  Cuban talked about some of his core beliefs that contributed to his success.

He began by talking about the power of self confidence and staying positive. He reminisced about his past days tending bar and working dead-end jobs, but also about how he never gave up faith in his own success.

"I say it to Maverick players and I say it to everybody in business," Mark said in the interview. "The one thing in life you can control is your effort. If you are willing to put in the effort to start the business and you are willing to deal with the challenges and the fact you might starve or live like a student . . . If you are willing to fight through those via effort and brain power, anything is possible. There is no reason it can't be you."

The effort has obviously paid off for Cuban, as besides having many successful companies, a spot on a hit TV show, and his own professional sports team, he still takes enjoyment from giving young entrepreneurs advice. One thing he offered was to keep expenses light, and avoid debt whenever possible. Once you have taken a loan, Cuban explained that the banker is your boss.
