Clear Your Credit

A credit report is a detailed report of an individual’s credit history. There are three major credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. You are entitled to a free credit report from each of the agencies every 12 months. You can request them all at the same time or spread them out throughout the year.  You should review each report for any mistakes.  You have a right to dispute any inaccurate information reported.

To obtain a copy of your credit report you can either go online to www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228.  You can also go to www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/include/requestformfinal.pdf print out, fill out and mail in the Annual Credit Report Request Form to the address given.

Trying to pay off your debt?  There’s an app for that! Found in the IPhone App Store, Pay Off Debt offers you options on how you want to handle your debt.  The snowball method allows you to start with lowest balance while the avalanche method would pay off the card with the highest interest rate first.  Or you can choose neither method and place your cards in whichever order you prefer. “The average credit card debt for U.S. households that carry a balance is $16,048.”  How does your debt compare to the average? Be patient, stay the course, and watch your debt start to disappear!
