Why do I need a notary?

There are three types of notarizations that are acknowledged within all 50 states:

1. Acknowledgments.

These documents typically relate to ownership through control or transfer. They can also express ownership over specific assets. Common documents include real estate documents, as well as other forms like a power of attorney. It can also sometimes include wills or trusts. 

• Jurats.

Jurats pertain to criminal or civil documents, and your signature with a notary’s certification is considered a legal, binding document that is considered effective upon certification by an official public notary. These include forms like affidavits and depositions that require an oath before completion.

• Certified Copies.

There are times when you cannot give away an official document like your passport or driver’s license, so a certified copy will be accepted instead. The recipient needs to know that this copy is a true and accurate copy of the actual document. 

Each state has different requirements.

 One unique caveat for Florida is that a notary can notarize both marriage ceremonies and vehicle identification number confirmation.

You need a knowledgeable notary who is current on legal requirements and documents to ensure that your important forms are processed without delay.

When will I need a notary?
