4 Boss-Approved Changes to Make To Your Work Routine To Boost Productivity

As much as you may love your routine, schedules and time management apps, some days all the to-do lists in the world won’t cut it when it comes to being productive. So, what is an organized person to do when they just can’t get work done?

Mix it up! Whether you are working on a more complex project that is going to require more of your focus or you are needing to be more creative, changing your daily routine can be the way to get it done. The challenge is to change it up in a way that won’t upset your boss or affect your team.

Here are four methods that are sure to get you going while keeping everyone happy:

Try Working From A Different Space

Sometimes all your brain needs is a change of scenery. Most cities these days have an abundance of café’s with free Wi-Fi or consider checking out On Point Executive Center, even if it’s just for an hour or two. Sometimes even just working from a different part of the office will do.

Switch Up Your Meeting Formats

Routine isn’t just about location. It’s also about complacency kicking in after the novelty wears off. One way to combat that is to try different formats for your meetings. For example, try a walking meeting instead of sitting in a conference room. And, if you have the flexibility, try scheduling at least one non-meeting day a week so you can focus on getting work done.

Take A Coffee Meeting With Yourself

For smaller projects that will only take an hour or two, take yourself out to coffee (and a baked good)! When you need time to focus or be creative, try scheduling yourself for a morning meeting at your favorite local café or coffee shop. Be sure to put this meeting on your calendar just like you would any ‘real’ meeting.

Work From Home

Working from home, whether it be for a full or half day, is one of the best ways to get large, challenging projects done on time. The key is no meetings and no distractions. Get in your zone and get it done! You might have to sell this idea more to a boss who doesn’t seem to keen on the idea. Be sure to explain what project you intend to get done and then do what you said you would do.

As awesome as your daily routine may be, switching it up a little can have a huge effect on your productivity, your mood and your work product. If you are in a rut, try one of these out and see if you can’t get yourself right back on track.
