The Art of Crafting a Lovely Thank You Note

December 27, 2019

Two little words that pack a big impact! Both on the giver and the recipient.

THANK YOU
Thank you…

Throughout the holiday season, our countertops overflow with holiday cookies, candies, and fruit baskets. Our hardworking staff has been treated to catered lunches, gift cards, and cash, hand-delivered with festive, metallic bows and tucked into glittering greeting cards.

At On Point Executive Center, we are privileged to partner with the world’s best and brightest stars, and as a result, we write a lot of thank you cards.

Why You Should Send a Thank You Note

Whatever the reason for your gratitude, the ability to concisely write a heartfelt thank you note is a skill that will serve you well in this life. There is proper etiquette for your thank you card, and it is especially important for business communications.

How to Write the Best Thank You Note

Here is how to write the best thank you card this holiday season has ever seen.

Prioritize timeliness.

Timeliness counts when sending a note of appreciation, and Southern etiquette experts recommend sending your thank you card within two weeks of receiving the gift. Use black ink and print legibly so your card can be properly read.

Get to the point.

As much as we would love to linger over a long letter, most of us simply do not have the time. When crafting your thank you note, keep it simple and get right to the point. This doesn’t mean you should skip the praise – just make sure that it is heartfelt and meaningful.

Compliment the gesture.

A thank you card is not just about the gift; it is about the gesture. Someone thought of you enough to spend on you, so a thank you note should focus not just on the material gift itself, but also the actual thought, time, and effort behind it.

Make plans.

Don’t just thank someone for the gift. Let them know how you plan to use it, or even better, make plans to enjoy it together. There is nothing people love more than seeing their gift is appreciated and enjoyed, and the opportunity to share that enjoyment can be the best thank you that you can offer.

Finish strong.

In closing, be sure to address the gift again and your gratitude. End on a personal note with an acknowledgment of work or family, even a favorite memory. Before sealing that envelope, take a few moments to read over your letter and check for any errors. Don’t forget to sign your name, both first and last!

You never know what can come of a simple note of gratitude. It could lead to a promotion or simply just a best friend.

A well-crafted thank you card does more than just share your appreciation. It can build relationships, cement partnerships, open doors, and present opportunities you could never have expected.

Gratitude changes everything.
