Memorial Day is a day dedicated to the memory of those amazing people who died protecting our freedom while serving in the country’s armed forces. It is because of people like them who bravely gave up their lives that we even get to have a fun filled three- day weekend in the first place. Be sure to thank a soldier today!
Five Beaches to Consider this Memorial Day
Treasure Island Beach – One of the most exciting things to do here is to wait until sunset on a Sunday when a full blown drum circle erupts with loads of audience interaction, dancing and fun. By day, however, the beach is clean and typically less crowded than some of the more popular beaches in Florida.
Ft. DeSoto Park – Ft. DeSoto Park is part beach and part park and all awesome. There is a fee to get into Ft. DeSoto, but most residents say it’s worth every penny. Just a few of the things you can do here include fishing from two free piers 24 hours a day, splash in calm waters, and rent bikes and kayaks!
Madeira Beach – Madeira Beach features several parks with picnic pavilions, access to fishing piers, beach access and more. This also the place to go if you want to take a dolphin cruise, a pirate’s cruise or just have the urge to go deep sea fishing!
Clearwater Beach – Pier 60, loads of restaurants, a playground on the beach and more! What else could you ask for? Oh and p.s. on Friday and Saturday nights at sunset, Pier 60 typically shows FREE movies! Check out their schedule of events here.
Honeymoon Island – Located in Dunedin, Honeymoon Island is more than just a beach. Like Ft. DeSoto, it also features a park, but what sets it apart that it is a natural barrier island that boasts an abundance of wildlife including the gopher tortoise and osprey.
