Everyday Working Moms: Tampa’s Heather McKnight

Around Mother’s Day, we like to recognize a few of our clients who are also hardworking moms. Heather McKnight, co-owner of McKnight & McKnight Insurance, is one of the everyday working moms that we wanted to feature this week. She really enjoys the flexibility that being self-employed offers, as it allows her time with her children and their extracurricular activities. But time with her family doesn’t mean her clients suffer! She says she’s willing to work later hours sometimes as the trade off is worth it. The good outweighs the bad when it comes to working alongside her spouse—and laughter is a vital component to getting through the challenging days! With the ability to support and celebrate each other from a professional and personal standpoint, it’s an ideal arrangement for them.

Heather comes from a family of business owners, where she was taught the importance of hard work, honesty, and putting family first. Heather says the greatest reward of being a mother is “seeing the unbridled happiness in your child’s eyes when they have found something they are good at and enjoy.” Also, she loves all the little gestures that bring a mother’s heart joy. Her mother was a strong working mom who made a lasting impression on her. A breast cancer survivor, her strength and determination in the face of fighting disease is just one of the many things that has inspired her. She hopes to have the kind of close relationship she shares with her mother with her own children one day.

Heather has a few words of wisdom to the other moms out there—working moms and stay at home moms alike. “We’re all in this together and doing the best we can. Support each other! Lean on someone when you need to. You can’t do it all and that’s ok! Stop and appreciate the little moments with your family, and store them in your memory bank. They are the fuel that keeps you going.”
