Giving Back in your Business
There was an amazing quote that Judy Genshaft, President of University of South Florida said recently at a scholarship awards ceremony. She said, “First you learn, then you earn and then you return.” She said this quote as a testament to the countless people who were there that night who had been past scholarship recipients and had returned to give scholarship money to the incoming class. This quote is the essence of why you must give back in your business.
When you first started your business think of all the people who helped you get a leg up. The creditors who loaned you the money, the angel investors who gifted you the money, the friends and family members who spread the word of your new business and the countless others who helped your business get off the ground. When your business starts making money it is your turn to pay it forward. Your end goal should always be to give back to the community.
Companies that frequently give back to their community enjoy amazing benefits including positive reputations, friendly PR, high company morale, higher profits, better brand awareness and more. The best part? When you give back to the community you will feel better too. It feels good to give! How can you give back?
– Canned food, clothing and book drives
– A portion of the proceeds from your sales goes to your favorite charity
– Charity benefits that you host or sponsor
– Scholarships you donate to at local colleges
– Donations to local sporting teams in grade schools
– Have an employee volunteer day at a soup kitchen or Habitat for Humanity
– Participate in walk-a-thons, marathons or triathlons
– Start a shadow program for teens and college students to let them learn your business
The sky is the limit! Pay it forward!
