Florida ranks fifth in small-business friendliness

January 6, 2015

Whether you're masterminding a standard office operation or launching a telecommuting firm, Florida is the place to do it. According to the 2014 Small Business Policy Index, the Sunshine State ranks fifth in the nation for the most small business-friendly policies, encouraging growth in a variety of markets and industries.

The index found that Florida has the lowest government spending trend and a smaller-than-average margin of government employees in its workforce. This means more Floridians are privately employed, boosting the labor force of corporations and small businesses. It also earned kudos for its lack of an estate tax, which has long courted professionals to settle down in Florida. Most importantly, the study considered that Florida has the second-lowest unemployment rate in the United States.

It's impossible to overstate the influence of public policy on the small business climate of a region. For that reason, the survey discovered the effect of policy on areas like investment, small business growth, competition and entrepreneurship. It examined 42 metrics of intersection between policy and small business activity, and found that only Texas, Nevada, South Dakota and Wyoming could rival Florida's incentives for businesses to grow and thrive.

Tampa Bay is a particularly exciting region of a dynamic state, with commercial expansion efforts mounted to revitalize the business community. From improved transportation and infrastructure to the announced addition of a "corporate campus" downtown, it's never been a better time to look for office space in Tampa

At On Point Executive Center, we can vouch for the Sunshine State's favorable small business climate. Our clients represent a variety of industries but have one thing in common: They've chosen Florida as a base for addressing services, physical office space and many other services we offer.
